BOOKS FOR KIRYAT MALACHI

As the seasons change, we are continuing to collect children's books in English for the 22 schools and libraries in Kiryat Malachi, Israel, and the Hof Ashkelon region.  We are helping teachers, librarians and social workers teach reading, writng and spoken English to more than 8,000 young immigrants from Ethiopian, Russian, and other countries.  Below is a list of books and related toy items which are very badly needed.  Please deposit in the collection box in the HNT lobby,  or if you wish,  call  Norm Chapman at 425-649-8553 for collection at your home. We are servicing 12 elementary schools, 4 high schools, 4 libraries and a science center for older students. In addition we provide books for a social work after-school program for special needs children and older teen age girls who need extra assistance dealing with their new lives.  The elementary school list has the highest priority.  Thanks for assisting us in this worthwhile mitzvah.

ISRAELI SCHOOLS NEED LIST (APRIL, 2006)

For Elementary schools

  1. Fairy tales with pictures and large prints

  2. Picture books that are easy to read

  3. First readers such as the “Step into Reading or “I Can Read series” books

  4. Beginning chapter books such as the “Magic Treehouse” or “Boxcar Children” series books

  5. Books under the 4th grade reading level are the best

  6. Preschool larger Legos, blocks, wooden puzzles, checkers, chess and other sturdy preschool toys for special ed students – also children’s videos/cassettes

  7. Jewish Holiday stories, Chanukah, Succot, Passover, etc.

  8. Dr. Seuss Books & Coloring Books (unused)

  9. Children’s books which have RL1 thru RL3 on back. RL for Reading Level found on back cover of some books.

For Kiryat Malachi Central Library & Hof Ashkelon Library
Also for the secondary students and the general public
  1. Easier biographies
  2. Anamorphs series
  3. Easier Babysitter series
  4. Goosebumps series
  5. Science fiction books
  6. Books based on movies
  7. Popular up-to-date adult fiction
  8. Short romances
  9. Popular history & biography --- not heavy and not long (sports, singers, etc.)


DO NOT NEED:

Outdated reference books (old encyclopedias, etc.)
Magazines like Sports Illustrated, Cosmopolitan, etc.
Cut Out books, Puzzle books, etc.
Children’s magazines such as Cricket, Highlights, Sesame Street, etc.
Medical or Legal Reference Books or Texts
