NW Jewish Singles 40+ NEWSLETTER
Work continues on the merging of Lox of Friends into the NW
Jewish Singles Group. A copy of the LOF membership list was
given to them this week. This was done after waiting for anyone
who objected to drop their membership in the LOF group after the
announcement that this would be implemented in the April 25
newsletter http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lox-of-friends/message/142.
Thursday, June 1, 9:30 PM - The Seattle Kollel in Seward
Park invites you to come to their Shavuot Jewish Singles Dinner
and Sleepless in Seattle All Night Learning Event. It's the
night when we became a nation. When we entered into what the
Kabbalists describe as a loving marriage relationship with our
Creator. So on that theme, we figure it's a great time for
Jewish singles to come spend the night and hopefully meet their
future other. Join us first for quick inspiring services
followed by a delicious and socializing late night holiday
dinner. At 12:00 AM join us for all night inspiring
intellectually stimulating and provocative classes. >From the
mild to the wild Jewish scandals, The Book of Ruth, Ten
Commandments, and The Jewish view on Angels. Home hospitality
available and refreshments and coffee all night long until the
Cheesecake morning breakfast after davening. Come spend the
night with us, and maybe your Bashert (soul mate) will too! RSVP
for dinner to 206-722-8289 or 206-938-4TLC (4852) or
rabbschwartz@yahoo.com (A Community Event)
Saturday, June 17, 7:00 PM - Join Edgar Rochelson for the
screening of an Israeli film, "Close to Home," at the Seattle
International Film Festival. Location is the Harvard Exit
theatre on Capital Hill in Seattle. This movie is the story of
two young Israeli soldiers who get to know each other while
patrolling in Jerusalem. The film runs 90 minutes so we could
have a late dinner afterwards. Buy tickets on your own at (check
the festival's website, http://www.seattlefilm.org or call
206-324-9996), but RSVP to Edgar at notanumber@comcast.net about
where to meet and sit together, and maybe have dinner
afterwards. (A Members Inviting Members Event)
Sunday, June 11, Afternoon - Come to Jewish Family
Service's Single Parent Program for an afternoon of fun and
games! Bring your game ideas and equipment, and hope for sun so
that we can be outdoors as well as inside. Mini-Advisory meeting
that day, as well. For more info and to RSVP contact Marjorie at
206-461-3240 ext. 3146 or jfle@jfsseattle.org. (Community
Events)
Sunday, June 25, 1 PM - Join other NWJS members at a
potluck on to celebrate the start of a fun filled summer season.
Howard Schoenfeld of Everett has graciously offered his home for
an afternoon of meeting old and new friends while enjoying the
surprises of a potluck. Please bring a homemade or store bought
dish of your choice and/or wine and beer. Coffee, soft drinks,
water and paper goods will be provided. Watch your email for an
official Evite complete with directions. Rain or shine, let the
festivities begin! (NW Jewish Singles Event)
Sunday, July 23 - Jewish Family Service Single Parent
Program Third Annual Summer Cook-Out with slowly roasted hot
dogs and the opportunity to make s'mores, a northwest delicacy.
This year it will be held at Lincoln Park in West Seattle, where
there are woods, beaches, and playfields. For more info and to
RSVP, contact Jane or Marjorie at 206-461-3240 or jdeer@jfsseattle.org
or jfle@jfsseattle.org. (Community Events)
Until the groups merge completely, to request to have an
activity posted in the newsletter, please email the steering
committee at
lox-of-friends-owner@yahoogroups.com. The newsletter usually
goes out on Tuesday, so we'll need your info by noon on Sunday
(and earlier is better).
We list events in the Jewish community specifically targeted to
singles 40 plus. We need members help to coordinate/create
events or to invite others to Members Inviting Members events.
Email us now! We are happy to hear your great ideas!
Members Inviting Members ("MIMs") give Lox of Friends (LOF)
members the opportunity to invite others to join them in any
activity they want to attend. These are not official LOF events
and the Steering Committee is not involved in any way.
MIMs can be of any nature, Jewish or non-Jewish. The only
requirement is that members inviting others include their name
and are inviting other members to join them. So if you've been
looking for friends to invite for a gathering at your home, an
activity like skiing or bowling, or friends to go to a dance or
concert, this is your opportunity! Given our large mailing list,
it's OK to limit attendance to whatever number works for you.
